A high-profile transfer? Iraola has decided the fate of the Liverpool midfielder!
Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola has been urged to immediately drop 23-year-old German attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz following a 0-0 draw with Fulham.
Details: Speaking on ESPN, former Reds defender Steve Nicol claimed the German midfielder's £116 million price tag has yet to be justified. In 54 appearances for Liverpool, Wirtz has registered just 7 goals and 11 assists. Nicol believes Iraola should bench Wirtz and form a midfield trio of Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, and Dominik Szoboszlai, pushing the Hungarian into the attacking midfield role behind striker Alexander Isak.
"Wirtz has been given plenty of opportunities to show what he can do, but in the Premier League, he gives the team practically nothing. When Szoboszlai gets the ball outside the box, opponents are forced to close him down because of his long-range shooting threat, which creates space for Isak. With Wirtz, defenders just stand in front of him and don't make mistakes," Nicol noted.
According to TEAMtalk, despite difficult spells, the Liverpool board and Iraola still expect to unlock the German talent's potential. However, if the situation does not change before the end of the season, Bayern Munich are seriously interested in the player and ready to make a transfer approach.
