A gift for Real Madrid. Girona lost important points in the fight for the championship

In the 23rd round of La Liga, Girona hosted Real Sociedad at their home ground, Montilivi. The Catalan side couldn't afford to drop points if they still harbored ambitions of challenging Real for the "golden" prize.

In injury time, Valery could have secured victory for Girona, but his shot narrowly missed the goal post by inches. Thus, none of the footballers managed to inscribe their names on the Montilivi scoreboard on this evening. That concluded the match with an eventful goalless draw.

Girona holds the second position, trailing Real by just one point. However, the Whites will play their match against Atletico on February 4th. In the next round, Girona and Real will clash in a battle where Michel's team risks being eliminated from the title race. Real Sociedad currently occupies the sixth position.
