A footballer has died. In Peru, lightning struck the field during a match
During a regional tournament football match in Peru, a true tragedy occurred as lightning struck the field.
Details: According to Mirror, the incident happened during a game between Juventud Bellavista and Familia Chocca. A severe thunderstorm began in the first half, prompting the referee to stop the match. However, the players didn’t manage to leave the field before lightning struck.
The 39-year-old footballer Jose Hugo De la Cruz Meza collapsed face-first onto the ground immediately after the strike. He died on the spot, with his death later confirmed at the hospital.
In addition, four other players sustained injuries. The 40-year-old goalkeeper Juan Chocca Llacta took a direct hit from the lightning and was hospitalized with severe burns.
