De Telegraaf reports that the Dutch striker of Spartak Moscow has been detained by the local police in Dubai.

This occurred following a request from the Dutch prosecutor's office for the extradition of the footballer. According to the decision of the Amsterdam court, Promes is to serve a 7.5-year prison sentence for stabbing his cousin in the knee and smuggling over 1350 kg of cocaine.

Promes was previously detained at the airport in the UAE after fleeing the scene of a car accident in the country. He was unable to return to Russia with Spartak. In 2021, an extradition treaty was signed between the Netherlands and the UAE, allowing for Promes to be extradited to his home country.

It is reported that until today, Promes had been under house arrest, but has now been transferred to a prison. However, the player can appeal the decision regarding his extradition.

By the way, Spanish police have arrested six burglars who targeted the homes of La Liga footballers.
