The year 2020 will forever be remembered for the onset of the terrifying COVID-19 pandemic, which claimed millions of lives worldwide. Exactly 5 years ago, a special match took place.

Details: On March 11, 2020, Atletico Madrid, in an incredible Champions League round of 16 match, defeated Liverpool in overtime with a score of 3-2 at Anfield.

This incredible match was the last at the top level before the lockdown. After that, stadiums remained open only in Belarus, Tajikistan, and a few other less developed footballing countries.

The 2019/20 season resumed only in May, with the Bundesliga being the first top league to emerge from the lockdown. However, for more than a year, football matches were held with empty stands.

Reminder: Today, the first second-leg matches of the UEFA Champions League round of 16 for the 2024/25 season will take place. Dailysports has published the potential quarter-final pairings.
