October 1st holds special significance for all Arsenal fans, as the club is one of England's greatest. Here's why.
Details: On this day, exactly 28 years ago, the legendary Frenchman Arsène Wenger became Arsenal’s head coach.
Wenger arrived at Arsenal from Japan, where he had managed Nagoya Grampus Eight. Before his time in Japan, he had coached Nancy and Monaco. His appointment was met with great skepticism from Arsenal fans and pundits alike. However, Wenger's arrival marked the beginning of one of the most successful periods in the club's history.
In total, Wenger managed Arsenal for 22 years, until the 2017/18 season.
Wenger's Arsenal statistics
- 1,234 matches
- 715 wins
- 267 draws
- 3 Premier League titles
- 7 FA Cup titles
- 7 FA Community Shield titles
- The 2003/04 Premier League season undefeated (an achievement unmatched by any other club)
Reminder: Wenger currently holds the position of FIFA’s Chief of Global Football Development.
