A dark spell in Serie A. Architect of recent triumph shown the door
A disastrous start to the season in Italy's top flight has cost the Italian coach his job.
Details: Football club Venezia have officially announced that Giovanni Stroppa has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the first team. The orange-black-green outfit's hierarchy took the drastic step amid a prolonged crisis on the pitch.
The catalyst for the dismissal was the defeat to Atalanta in the previous round. Venezia have suffered six defeats in their opening six Serie A matches and, with zero points, are rooted to the bottom of the table.
In an official statement, the club's management thanked the 58-year-old coach for his dedication. It was under Stroppa's leadership that the team enjoyed a memorable 2025/26 campaign and made a triumphant return to the top flight from Serie B.
Davide Nicola and Paolo Zanetti are considered the leading candidates for the vacant managerial position, with talks already under way.
It is worth noting that Giovanni Stroppa has become the fourth head coach to be dismissed in the 2026/27 Serie A season. In the next round of the Italian championship, the team from Venice will host Napoli.
