A blockbuster appointment in Istanbul? Fenerbahce lures star coach with lucrative contract
Turkish giants Fenerbahce have opened substantive talks with highly respected Portuguese coach Sergio Conceicao, offering him the chance to take charge of the team on a permanent basis.
Details: According to renowned insider Nicolo Schira, the Istanbul club's hierarchy sees the 51-year-old former Porto manager as the key figure capable of bringing the league title back. To persuade the Portuguese coach to move to the shores of the Bosphorus, the Yellow Canaries' chiefs have already prepared a lucrative contract running until the summer of 2028.
Dirk Kuyt is currently serving as caretaker manager, having taken over the team following Ismail Kartal's recent departure. Nevertheless, the club's hierarchy had been targeting a high-profile coach with a strong reputation on the European stage from the outset and considers Conceicao the ideal choice to tackle its ambitious objectives in the Super Lig and European competitions.
It is worth noting that Sergio Conceicao achieved outstanding success at the helm of Porto, winning three Portuguese league titles and three domestic cups with the club, while also regularly reaching the decisive stages of the Champions League knockout rounds.
