A billionaire takeover at Anfield? Bezos linked group sparks a fresh Liverpool storm
Could Anfield's ownership change hands again? A new claim suggests 1892 Holdings, the investor consortium linked to Jeff Bezos, may seek far more than its current minority stake in Liverpool. But talk of a 69% holding or a full takeover has not been independently verified.
Details: On November 5, Polymarket FC claimed the group could eventually control 69% of Liverpool, or even 100%, through a staged takeover arrangement with Fenway Sports Group. The post provided no verifiable evidence for either figure. Liverpool's official August statement confirmed only a minority investment, with FSG retaining majority ownership and operational control.

The starting point is real: 1892 Holdings agreed to acquire a stake later reported at 38%. The consortium is led by businessman Amit Bhatia, not Bezos personally. Its investors include the Mittal family trusts, EE Capital and K5 Sports, a fund in which the Amazon founder is the lead investor. Bezos is considered a passive participant rather than Liverpool's new controlling owner.
The prospect of a larger deal is not entirely new. The Guardian and Sky Sports reported in August that 1892 Holdings has an option to seek a controlling stake if FSG decides to sell more shares within 12 months. That option does not force the American owners to exit. It also does not establish that 69% or a complete buyout has been agreed.
It's worth noting that FSG bought Liverpool in 2010 for £300 million, while the August investment reportedly valued the club at about £5.5 billion. The existing minority deal and a possible future transfer of control are different matters. No new agreement for 69% or 100% ownership has been officially announced.
