Bayern Munich want to tie down their biggest star for the long run, but Michael Olise has a very specific condition that makes the Bavarian board sweat. The answer to it could shape European football's transfer market for years.

Details: According to Christian Falk, Olise's camp will insist on a release clause in any new Bayern contract, and the club's feeling is that such a clause would have to be worth at least €200 million. One idea circulating in Munich is that the €200 million figure could apply in the first year of the deal and then gradually decrease. Bayern, who traditionally avoid release clauses, want to extend the French winger's contract, which currently runs until 2029, until 2032 with a salary of around €25 million per year, lifting him into the top earner bracket alongside Harry Kane and Jamal Musiala. Olise currently earns roughly €14 million annually.

The demand is no surprise to anyone following Olise's career: the 24 year old inserted release clauses into his contracts at Reading and Crystal Palace at every opportunity, and his Bayern deal is the first professional contract of his life without one. That gives Munich real leverage, but also explains why negotiations, as Sport Bild reports, are expected to be significantly more difficult than those with Kane. The stakes could hardly be higher. Since arriving from Crystal Palace for €53 million in the summer of 2024, Olise has produced 50 goals and 58 assists in 114 games, was named Bundesliga Player of the Season, finished as the league's top assist provider and recorded seven assists for France at the 2026 World Cup, equaling the record for a single edition. Real Madrid chased him all summer, while Liverpool and Arsenal keep monitoring the situation. A €200 million clause would keep him effectively out of reach for almost everyone, yet it would also hand the player a golden parachute Bayern have spent decades refusing to grant anyone.

It's worth noting that Bayern director Max Eberl confirmed last October that Olise's current contract, signed in 2024 and valid until June 2029, contains no release clause at all. The club may use that leverage to delay the activation of any new clause until at least 2029.
