€50m clause bomb! Real Madrid and Premier League giants circle Schlotterbeck
Nico Schlotterbeck is becoming one of the hottest defensive names on the European transfer market.
Details: According to Fussball News, Real Madrid, Liverpool and Manchester United are closely monitoring Borussia Dortmund centre-back Nico Schlotterbeck. Barcelona are also following the 26-year-old German international and continue to analyse his situation.
Despite the growing interest from several European heavyweights, the race has not yet reached the negotiation stage. Borussia Dortmund have received no official offers, while direct talks with any of the interested clubs have not started. The report adds that Real Madrid are showing particularly strong interest in the left-footed defender.
A major factor in Schlotterbeck's future could be a special release clause included in his contract. Fussball News reports that the clause is worth between €50 million and €60 million and is available only to selected European top clubs. The identities of the clubs covered by the clause have not been disclosed, meaning it is not yet confirmed which of the current suitors could activate it.
For clubs that are not covered by the clause, Borussia Dortmund reportedly value their defensive leader at more than €70 million. It is worth noting that Schlotterbeck extended his contract with Dortmund in April 2026 until June 30, 2031. His current market value is estimated at around €55 million by Transfermarkt.
