5,000 threats a day and two pistols! Lazio president stuns football with terrifying revelations
An extraordinary scandal has erupted around Lazio. Club president Claudio Lotito has made shocking revelations about threats against his life, admitting that he once carried two firearms for protection before delivering a merciless response to supporters demanding a brighter future.
Details: According to La Repubblica, Claudio Lotito made the explosive statements during testimony to prosecutors investigating alleged attempts to force a change of ownership at Lazio. The 69 year old businessman claimed he receives as many as 5,000 threatening phone calls every day and described how he previously carried two pistols, including an automatic weapon and a Smith & Wesson. Lotito even insisted that one of the firearms had saved his life. When addressing supporters who believe Lazio no longer allow them to dream, the president suggested that they should take a sleeping pill.

The extraordinary remarks emerged in an October 15 report by La Repubblica, which published details from Lotito's testimony to prosecutor Lorenzo Del Giudice on June 30. Recalling some of the darkest periods of his relationship with Lazio's ultras, the president described taking extreme precautions to protect himself. He explained that he carried one firearm at the front of his body and another behind him, claiming that one of the weapons had proved useful during a dangerous encounter and had saved his life.
Lotito also recalled an intimidating episode during the opening of a shop in Rome's Montesacro district. According to his account, a hostile crowd prevented him from leaving the premises until riot police intervened. The Lazio president believes that a similarly threatening atmosphere is developing again, this time against the backdrop of speculation surrounding the club's possible sale and alleged attempts to influence its ownership.
The businessman categorically denied receiving any genuine purchase offers for Lazio, despite persistent rumours involving foreign investment funds and wealthy potential buyers. He stated that he had filed complaints and submitted reports to the Italian financial regulator Consob concerning the situation. Lotito also suggested that certain political interests were working against him. His allegations form part of a wider investigation into suspected attempts to engineer a change in the club's ownership.
However, the most controversial part of his comments concerned Lazio's supporters. For years, sections of the fanbase have criticised Lotito over the club's sporting ambitions, financial policies and transfer strategy. Earlier protests included a major demonstration in July 2025 and a boycott involving approximately 30,000 season ticket holders in January 2026. The president's dismissive response to fans asking for dreams and ambition is unlikely to ease tensions. The reported 5,000 daily threatening calls remain Lotito's own claim rather than an independently verified figure.
It's worth noting that Claudio Lotito has controlled Lazio since 2004, making him one of the longest serving club presidents in Italian football. Despite the increasingly bitter relationship with sections of the fanbase, Lazio have started the 2026/27 Serie A campaign impressively, collecting 16 points from their opening six matches. The Rome club currently sit second in the table and face Juventus on October 18.
Reminder: Major scandal at Lazio! Fans take to the streets.
