The USA women's basketball team became Olympic champions today after defeating France in the final.

This Olympic gold is the sixth in the career of American basketball player Diana Taurasi, making her the most decorated basketball player in Olympic history.

Previously, Taurasi and her national team won five consecutive Olympic tournaments—in Athens, Beijing, London, Rio de Janeiro, and Tokyo.

The USA women's team has consistently won gold in basketball at the Olympics since 1996. At the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, they had to settle for bronze.

Notably, this victory helped the USA win the overall medal count at the Paris Games.
