2027 AFCON Qualifier: Carlos Queiroz Wants Ghana to Build Stability Ahead of The Gambia Clash

Carlos Queiroz has called for greater stability within the Ghana national team, insisting that constant changes to the squad could hinder the Black Stars’ progress.

Ghana’s head coach spoke ahead of Tuesday’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against The Gambia, with the team looking to recover from their disappointing start to the qualifying campaign.

Queiroz believes players need time to develop an understanding with one another, arguing that regularly changing a large number of players leaves the team repeatedly rebuilding its foundations.

“We cannot change 7,8,9,10 players every single call-up because every time we change the players, we have to start from zero,” Queiroz said.

The Portuguese tactician compared the situation to constructing a multi-storey building, explaining that changing the workforce midway through the process can prevent the team from making steady progress.

“So let’s imagine you order me as an engineer to build one building with six floors. So first week I have some workers, we go to first floor, then we change all the workers, the first floor goes down, we start from ground zero.

“Next week ground zero, next week ground zero again, next week ground zero. This is the problem, one of the problems of the national team.”
