2025 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships. Schedule and results
On Thursday evening, 26 December, the 49th World Youth Ice Hockey Championship starts in Canada. The tournament will run until 5 January, when the new champion will be announced.
The format remains unchanged over the years. Ten teams participate, divided into two groups of five. The competition begins with a preliminary round — the group stage.
Each team plays four round-robin matches within its group. The top four teams from each group advance to the playoffs, where the world champion, silver medalist, and bronze medalist are determined. The two fifth-placed teams will face off to decide which team remains in the elite division and which is relegated.
The defending champion of the IIHF World Junior Championship is Team USA. They decisively defeated Sweden 6–2 in the final, securing their sixth championship title and third in the past seven years.
