2024 Summer Paralympics start today in Paris
The seventeenth Summer Paralympic Games begin in France on Wednesday, July 28.
The competitions will take place from August 28 to September 8. All competitions will take place in and around Paris.
In total, athletes from 169 countries, including Refugee Paralympic Team and Neutral Paralympic Athletes athletes, will take part in the 2024 Paralympics. Eritrea, Kiribati and Kosovo will be making their Paralympic debuts.
The largest representation at the Games will be athletes from the People's Republic of China (284). Brazil (256), France (239), USA (220) and Great Britain (200) will also delegate more than 200 athletes to the event.

Compared to Tokyo 2020, the number of sports at the Paralympics has not changed. In total, fans can expect a total of 549 medal events, among which 235 will be women's medals. This is a record for the women's Paralympic movement.
By tradition, the largest number of medals will be drawn in athletics (164) and swimming (141).
On the first day, only the Opening Ceremony will take place, which is scheduled to take place at the Place de la Concorde.
The first Paralympic champions of 2024 will be known already on September 29: fans will find out the winners in cycling, swimming and taekwondo.
