The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially kicked off the 2024 African Football Awards, which were held in Marrakech, Morocco, on Monday. Fans of African football eagerly awaited the announcement of the winners in this star-studded ceremony, which took place at the Palais des Congrès in the Moroccan city.
While the most anticipated awards, including Best African Player and Best African Coach, are yet to be revealed, several categories have already been decided. Among the notable winners are:
- Best Player in Africa 2024: Ademola Lookman, a forward for the Super Eagles and Atalanta, has won the 2024 CAF Player of the Year award.
- Best Female Player in Africa 2024: Barbra Banda, a Zambian superstar, has been awarded the 2024 CAF Women's Player of the Year title.
- Best Male Coach in Africa 2024: Emerse Faé, The Ivory Coast national team's head coach won this coveted honor, defeating South African manager Hugo Broos and Congolese coach Sébastien Desabre.
- Best Female Coach in Africa 2024: Lamia Boumehdi, won the prize, defeating Ahmed Ramadan of Egypt, Mohamed Amin Alioua of Morocco, and Thethasoneki Mbuli of South Africa. She is the coach of the Congo's TP Mazembe women's squad.
- Best African Goalkeeper 2024: Ronwen Williams, In this category, the South African goalkeeper for Mamelodi Sundowns won, defeating Yassine Fofana of Angers of Ivory Coast and André Onana of Manchester United of Cameroon.
- Best African Female Goalkeeper 2024: Chiamaka Nnadozie, The honor went to the Nigerian goalkeeper for Paris FC, who defeated South Africa's Andile Dlamini, who plays for Sundowns, and Morocco's Khadija Rmichi.
Other Notable Awards:
- Best Player in Africa 2024: Ronwen Williams, South African goalkeeper for Mamelodi Sundowns, won the award, beating Egyptian duo Ahmed Sayed commonly known as "Zizo" and Hussein El Shahat.
- Best Female Player in Africa 2024: Sanaâ Mssoudy, from Morocco's Raja Casablanca, took home the award, defeating teammates Dhuha al-Madini and Angolan player Latcho Flora Marta from TP Mazembe.
- Best Young Male Player in Africa 2024: Lamine Camara, the promising Senegalese midfielder from AS Monaco, claimed this honor, beating out Ivorian duo Karim Konaté and Omar Diakité.
- Best Young Female Player in Africa 2024: Doha El Madani, also from Morocco’s Raja Casablanca, won the award, edging out Egypt’s Habiba Sabry and Nigeria’s Chimaka Akuchukwu.
- Best Men’s National Team 2024: The Ivory Coast national team, winners of the Africa Cup of Nations, secured this prestigious award, defeating Nigeria and South Africa.
- Best Women’s National Team 2024: Nigeria’s women’s national team was awarded this honor, triumphing over Morocco and South Africa.
- Best Men’s Club 2024: Al Ahly, the reigning CAF Champions League champions, took home the award, surpassing Egyptian rivals Zamalek and South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns.
- Best Women’s Club 2024: TP Mazembe, the champions of the Women’s CAF Champions League, won this award, beating out Morocco’s Raja Casablanca and Nigeria’s Edo Queens.
- Goal of the Year: Cristóvão Paciencia Mabululu of Angola has been selected the 2024 Best African Goal by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
