€150 million poker! Arsenal ready to break the bank for Atlético superstar
The transfer saga of the summer has taken yet another sensational twist.
Details: Renowned journalist Mario Cortegana reports that Arsenal could make a move for Atlético Madrid forward Julián Álvarez. The Madrid club would consider an offer of around €150 million for their star striker. At the same time, the Colchoneros flatly refuse to sell the Argentine to Barcelona under any circumstances. The Gunners are now waiting for a green light from the player's side to launch their offensive.
Arsenal's interest in Álvarez is nothing new. Back in June, Real Madrid officially submitted a €150 million bid for the Argentine, but Atlético rejected it outright, pointing to the player's release clause. Barcelona have also been chasing the striker all summer long, yet the Madrid club have no intention of strengthening their direct La Liga rivals.
For Mikel Arteta, signing a forward of this caliber would be a genuine statement of intent, as the 26-year-old Argentine has established himself as one of the most complete strikers in Europe, equally dangerous as a finisher and as a creator. It's worth noting that Transfermarkt values Julián Álvarez at €120 million, and his current contract with Atlético runs until the summer of 2030, so the Madrid club hold all the cards in these negotiations.
Reminder: London calling? No thanks! Álvarez turns down Arsenal despite Atlético's green light.
