14 defeats in a row! Yaya Touré's Slovan smash an unwanted Champions League record
Yaya Touré's debut Champions League campaign as a head coach has turned into a historic nightmare.
Details: On November 3, Slovan Bratislava suffered a crushing 4-0 defeat away to LASK, extending their losing streak in the Champions League to an astonishing 14 consecutive matches. The Slovak champions have officially broken the competition's unwanted record, previously held by Marseille with 13 straight defeats between 2012 and 2020.
Remarkably, Slovan's disastrous streak stretches all the way back to 1992, when the club lost twice to AC Milan. Eight more defeats followed in the 2024/25 campaign, with another four added this season. Across those 14 matches, the Slovak side have scored just eight goals while conceding an incredible 49.
Touré has also made unwanted history personally. Slovan lost 1-6 to PSG, 0-3 to Stuttgart, and 0-4 to both Roma and LASK. With an overall goal difference of 1-17, the Ivorian has become the first coach in Champions League history to lose each of his first four matches by at least three goals.
And things could get even worse. The absolute European Cup and Champions League record stands at 16 consecutive defeats, set by Luxembourg's Jeunesse Esch. Slovan face Real Betis on November 24 before hosting Shakhtar Donetsk on December 9. Two more losses would see them equal that historic low.
It's worth noting that Touré won the Champions League with Barcelona as a player in 2009. He also became the first African head coach to lead a team in the competition's main phase.
