Young Africans – FAR Rabat: Match preview
Both teams begin their journey in the new CAF Champions League season, having each navigated two qualifying rounds to reach the group stage.
Young Africans first swept aside Pamba with a 5–0 aggregate score. They were then pushed to the limit by Silver Strikers: a 0–1 loss in the first leg, followed by a decisive 2–0 home win that secured their place in the CAF Champions League. Domestically, Young Africans have kicked off without a setback — three wins and a draw, collecting 10 points from four rounds to sit at the top of the table.
FAR Rabat are currently battling for first place in the Moroccan league. After eight matches they have accumulated 18 points and sit second in the standings, just two points behind the leaders as the title race intensifies. In the CAF Champions League qualifiers, FAR Rabat first dispatched Real Banjul 4–1 over two legs, then repeated the feat with another 4–1 aggregate win over Horoya.
Last season both clubs featured in the CAF Champions League. Young Africans finished third in their group and failed to reach the knockout stage, while FAR Rabat topped their group and advanced to the quarter-finals. They couldn’t progress further, though — despite winning the first leg against Pyramids 2–0, they collapsed 1–4 in the return match and were eliminated.
Probable lineup
- Young Africans: Diarra, Shomari, Job, Isaka, Hamad, Yahya, Aziz Ki, Aucho, Musonda, Dube, Mzize
Prediction
Both sides will be desperate to start strong and open their campaign with a win. In my view, FAR Rabat possess the higher-quality squad, and my recommended bet is on them scoring at least once in this match.
