The first leg of the Europa League third qualifying round between Jagiellonia and Rangers will take place on August 6 at the Horten Arena in Białystok. The Polish side enters their home fixture riding an impressive unbeaten streak, while the Scottish club is still adjusting to the demands of a new manager and a heavily revamped squad.

Jagiellonia: cohesion and character make up for personnel losses

Jagiellonia finished last season on a high note and haven’t lost momentum after the summer break. Adrian Siemieniec’s squad is now unbeaten in 12 matches, and in the new campaign, they have already beaten Korona 1-0 and Motor Lublin 2-1, with both decisive goals coming after the 85th minute.

This summer, the Poles lost Bartosz Mazurek, sold for six million euros, and their top striker in recent years, Afimico Pululu, who left as a free agent. Nonetheless, the experienced core remains intact, and newcomer Nik Prelec has quickly settled in up front - finding the net in every game so far. The team has also been strengthened by the arrivals of Anders Klynge, Rodrigo Conceição, and Jeremy Agbonifo.

Rangers: sweeping changes have yet to bring stability

The Rangers are starting their season amid yet another attempt to rejoin the hunt for major trophies. After finishing third in the Scottish Premiership, the team played only two friendlies - beating Saint-Étienne 2-1 and drawing 0-0 with West Ham - before surprisingly dropping points in their league opener against Dundee United (1-1).

This summer, the club appointed Derek McInnes as manager, along with key signings Lawrence Shankland, Cammy Devlin, and several other players expected to feature regularly. The new coach is still short on time to build chemistry, and injuries to Ben Godfrey and Jose Cifuentes further complicate preparations - especially at center-back, where an inexperienced partner may have to line up next to Emmanuel Fernandez.

Match facts and head-to-head

  • Jagiellonia are unbeaten in their last 12 matches.
  • Over 2.5 goals have been scored in five of the last eight matches involving the Polish club and in eight of Rangers’ last nine fixtures.
  • Both teams have scored in eight of Jagiellonia’s last 13 games and in nine matches involving Rangers.

Will home advantage decide it? Prediction for Jagiellonia vs Rangers

Jagiellonia look like the more cohesive unit at this stage of the season. The Poles have kept the core of their squad, finish matches strongly, and have already shown they can step up after the interval. Meanwhile, their opponents are still adapting to new tactical ideas and have yet to impress even against lesser opposition.

Rangers do boast plenty of attacking firepower, so it’s hard to rule out a goal for the visitors. However, injuries at the heart of defense, poor away form, and a lack of chemistry all tip the scales in favor of the hosts: Siemieniec’s side should control the tempo more often and look to exploit any mistakes from a reorganized Rangers backline.
