Watford – Lincoln: the Hornets will try to climb out of the danger zone
On November 3, 2026, Watford will host Lincoln City in the 14th round of the English Championship. The match will take place at Vicarage Road and will kick off at 19:45 British time. For the hosts, this is another opportunity to improve their position in the lower reaches of the table, while the visitors will be looking to continue their push for a more comfortable standing. On paper, Watford look like the favourites thanks to their status and home advantage, but the teams' current form calls for caution when assessing this matchup.
Watford
The season has been frankly disappointing for the Hornets. After 12 rounds, the team have collected just 11 points and sit 21st in the table. Three wins, two draws and seven defeats — statistics that do not reflect the ambitions of a club that only recently competed in the Premier League.
Their attacking play is particularly concerning. Watford have scored just 12 goals in 13 matches, placing them among the division's least productive teams in that regard. Their struggles in front of goal have been especially evident in away matches, where Alessio Dionisi's side have so far been unable to find any consistency.
In their last five rounds, the team have suffered four defeats and managed just one win. Heavy losses to Burnley (0-4) and Cardiff (1-5) clearly demonstrated how vulnerable the defence can be. The only positive was a 2-0 home win over Charlton, but Watford failed to build on it: they subsequently lost to Wolverhampton (0-1) and Norwich (2-3).
Dionisi primarily uses a formation with three centre-backs and two forwards. Edo Kayembe and Hector Kyprianou play important roles in midfield, while much of the attacking threat depends on the link-up between Myron Boadu and Luca Kjerrumgaard. Iker Bravo is also worth highlighting, as he is capable of adding creativity between the lines.

Watford will go into the upcoming match with several squad absences. Edoardo Bove, Jeremy Ngakia, Kwadwo Baah and Michail Antonio are all unavailable. The absence of the latter is particularly unwelcome given the team's problems with creating and converting chances.
Lincoln City
Despite being newcomers to the Championship, the visitors have looked highly competitive so far. After 12 rounds, Lincoln have 15 points and sit 15th in the table. Four wins and three draws represent a respectable return for a team that have only just returned to England's second tier after a 65-year absence.
Last season, the team won League One, doing so in convincing fashion by finishing 12 points clear of their nearest challengers. The club also had to deal with changes to the coaching staff in the summer: Michael Skubala left the team, with his place taken by Chris Cohen and Tom Shaw, who had previously worked as assistants.
The start of the new Championship campaign was mixed. Lincoln looked fairly confident away from home but spent a long time unable to secure their first home win. In October, the team encountered serious problems: they first lost to Swansea (1-2), then were beaten by Sheffield United (0-3), before West Ham put six unanswered goals past them.
However, it would be premature to write off Cohen and Shaw's side. They first drew 2-2 with Millwall and then produced one of their best performances of the season, thrashing Burnley 4-1. Lincoln had fallen behind during the match but managed to completely turn the game around.
Mikkel Ladefoged deserves special attention. The Danish striker scored twice against Burnley and has already become one of the team's key attacking weapons. Ben House, Dom Jeffries and Rico Hackett-Fairchild are also worth mentioning.
Unlike their opponents, Lincoln have no major problems in front of goal, scoring 13 times in 12 rounds. Their defence, however, remains less than reliable, as shown by the 20 goals they have conceded.
What to expect from the match?
This promises to be an intriguing encounter, as both teams have plenty to prove. Watford cannot afford to keep dropping points, especially at home. Another setback would only increase the pressure on Dionisi and cast further doubt on the club's prospects of retaining their place in the Championship.
The hosts will most likely look to take control of the game and make greater use of the flanks. At the same time, they will need to be vigilant against the visitors' quick transitions from defence to attack. Lincoln know how to exploit space, while Ladefoged is currently in excellent form.
The visitors are unlikely to throw caution to the wind and will look to remain organised, relying on rapid counter-attacks. For them, even a draw away at such a difficult venue would be an acceptable result.
In my view, Watford have a slight advantage thanks to home field, but the team's current form makes it impossible to regard them as clear favourites. Lincoln have already shown that they can cause problems for more illustrious opponents. I expect a tense encounter in which both sides will create opportunities to find the net.
Prediction: both teams to score.
