The opening-round UEFA Nations League 2026/27 clash between Turkey and France will take place on September 25 at Kocaeli Stadyumu in Kocaeli. The teams have been drawn into the same group as Italy and Belgium, making the opening fixture hugely significant: Turkey are trying to recover from a disappointing World Cup, while France are beginning a new era under Zinedine Zidane.
Turkey: Montella remains in charge, but the problems have not gone away
The 2026 World Cup turned out to be a highly disappointing tournament for Turkey. In a group featuring the United States, Australia and Paraguay, the team managed to beat only the Americans — 3-2 — while losing the other two matches. After 14 years under Didier Deschamps, France have appointed Zinedine Zidane as their new head coach. Zidane has immediately begun refreshing the squad.
