Prediction for Casa Pia vs Benfica: the Eagles must claim all three points - 17.08.2026
The second round of the Portuguese championship brings us an intriguing Lisbon derby as Casa Pia hosts Benfica. The clash will take place on August 17 at the Estádio Municipal de Rio Maior.

Casa Pia kicked off their league campaign with a defeat. In the opening round, the team narrowly lost away to Marítimo—0-1. Now the "Geese" return to their nominal home ground and will surely try to play with more courage, especially as their opponent is not just the match favorite but one of the main contenders for the title.
Benfica, on the other hand, surprisingly dropped points in their first league outing. Marco Silva's side drew 2-2 at home against Primeira newcomers Academico Viseu. Despite taking the lead twice, they failed to hold on for the win. For the new head coach, this is a clear signal to rethink defensive reliability.
Going forward, though, things look far more promising for the Eagles. In the Europa League, Benfica demolished St. Gallen 5-0 and then put on a goal-scoring spectacle against Hearts—6-1. In the second leg against the Scots on August 13, the Lisbon side drew 1-1 and advanced to the next round. Special mention goes to Vangelis Pavlidis: the striker netted four goals against St. Gallen in a single match and is in superb form.
Still, I wouldn't underestimate Casa Pia. The last head-to-head between these teams in April ended 1-1, and back in November 2025, they also settled for a draw—2-2. So, Benfica could well be in for another tough test.
Nevertheless, in terms of squad depth, quality, and current attacking firepower, the visitors look significantly stronger. Casa Pia will likely try to close down the spaces and catch the favorites on the counter, while for Benfica, it's crucial to seize the initiative from the start and avoid repeating the mistakes of matchday one.
My prediction: over 2.5 total goals
