Ukraine, Kryvyi Rih, Hirnyk Stadium

On November 2, as part of the 11th round of the Ukrainian Premier League, Kryvbas will host Dynamo Kyiv at Hirnyk Stadium in Kryvyi Rih. At first glance, the favorite in this matchup seems obvious, but the current state of both teams calls for a more cautious assessment. The hosts are gradually adapting to the demands of their new coach, while the capital club is going through a far from peaceful period.

Kryvbas

The Kryvyi Rih side are going through a genuinely difficult stretch in the league. After eight matches, the team have just six points and sit 15th in the standings. Their only league win so far offers little hope of a comfortable campaign, while their goals scored and conceded record (7:13) also highlights the problems they are facing.
The club's management decided to change the situation with a coaching reshuffle. Oleksandr Petrakov took charge of the team in place of Patrick van Leeuwen. The first results under the new manager look encouraging. In the league, Kryvbas drew with Bukovyna (0:0), then managed to reach the Ukrainian Cup quarter-finals by eliminating Zorya on penalties after a 1:1 draw.

Petrakov has already begun reshaping the team's style of play. In particular, the side are using a formation with three centre-backs and trying to move the ball into the attacking third more quickly through long passes. This style of football does not always look aesthetically pleasing, but it can cause problems for an opponent accustomed to controlling possession.
It is also worth noting that Kryvbas will have to cope with a congested schedule. Their cup clash with Zorya took place just a few days before the meeting with the Kyiv side. As a result, the players' physical condition could prove to be an important factor.

Dynamo Kyiv

The capital club's situation is somewhat better, although there is still little cause for optimism. After nine league matches, Dynamo have collected 19 points and sit fourth. The gap to the leaders is not yet critical, but dropping points in matches like this would be highly undesirable for the Kyiv side.
In their last few league games, the team beat Karpaty (1:0), lost to Polissya (1:3), and then overcame Kudrivka (3:1). However, the real blow to the fans' mood came on October 27. In the Ukrainian Cup, Dynamo suffered a painful 0:3 defeat to Shakhtar and were eliminated from the tournament.
Against the backdrop of the poor results, the club's management had previously dismissed Ihor Kostyuk. Polish coach Maciej Kendzierek was appointed caretaker manager. He now needs not only to improve the team's performances, but also to restore the players' confidence ahead of the most important league matches.

In attack, Dynamo's main hopes remain Matviy Ponomarenko, Nazar Voloshyn and Andriy Yarmolenko, while much in midfield will depend on Mykola Shaparenko and Volodymyr Brazhko. Dynamo possess enough individual quality to create danger even against a packed defense.

Head-to-head history and what to expect from the match?

Meetings between these opponents are often high-scoring. It is enough to recall last year's clashes, in which the Kyiv side won 4:0 and 6:5. Particularly telling is the fact that even with a significant advantage in class, Dynamo do not always manage to keep a clean sheet.
This time, the script could be somewhat different. Petrakov will surely try to organize a compact defense, deny the visitors space and use long passes to launch quick attacks. Dynamo, meanwhile, will have to find openings against an opponent unlikely to throw caution to the wind from the very first minute.
At the same time, the Kyiv side's squad and playing potential are still clearly superior. After the defeat to Shakhtar, the visitors should take the field with extra motivation, as another dropped points would only increase the pressure on the team and coaching staff.

Kryvbas are already showing signs of improvement under Petrakov, but the difference in individual quality should ultimately play a decisive role.

As an additional option, over 2 goals is worth considering: the visitors have the tools to produce a high-scoring performance, while the hosts are quite capable of capitalizing on mistakes in the opposition's defense.

Prediction: Dynamo to win.
