Everything is on the line in Fort-de-France: Martinique vs El Salvador prediction — 06.10.2026
Martinique and El Salvador meet at Stade Pierre-Aliker in Fort-de-France in the final round of League A Group B of the CONCACAF Nations League. The match officially kicks off at 18:00 local time on October 5, which is 01:00 on October 6 in Kyiv. Both sides have three points after three matches: Martinique sit fifth with a 4-6 goal difference, while El Salvador are bottom at 3-9. With Suriname on seven points and Jamaica on six, a draw would end the quarterfinal hopes of both teams, while finishing fifth or sixth also means relegation to League B.

Martinique: the response against Honduras came at the perfect time
Fabien Mercadal's team had a difficult start to the campaign. Martinique lost 3-1 away to El Salvador and then went down 2-1 against Suriname, despite Boris Moltenis pulling one back late in Paramaribo.
The situation changed dramatically in the third round. At home against Honduras, Martinique conceded after only eight minutes but responded well. Jonathan Varane equalized in the 40th minute after Janis Antiste's delivery, before Jonathan Mexique completed the comeback with an excellent strike from outside the box in the 88th minute. It was Martinique's first victory of the campaign and an important psychological boost before another home fixture.
The result was particularly encouraging because Martinique did not need to dominate possession to create danger. Against Honduras, they had only 38% of the ball but produced 14 attempts, five shots on target and seven corners. Mercadal has several players capable of making the difference in transition, including Antiste, Ludovic Blas, Brighton Labeau and Kévin Appin, while Varane and Mexique have already shown their ability to contribute goals from midfield.
Another notable trend is that Martinique have both scored and conceded in all three of their Nations League matches. Their games have finished 1-3, 1-2 and 2-1, meaning every one of them has produced at least three goals.
El Salvador: two heavy blows and a problem in central defence
El Salvador's campaign has moved in the opposite direction. Hernán Darío “Bolillo” Gómez's side opened the tournament with an impressive 3-1 victory over Martinique, with Brayan Gil scoring twice, but the following two matches were much more painful: a 6-0 defeat in Guatemala and a 2-0 home loss to Jamaica. The Salvadorans have therefore conceded eight unanswered goals in their last two games.
The Jamaica match was heavily influenced by Rudy Clavel's direct red card in the 20th minute. The centre-back will now serve a suspension, as CONCACAF regulations require red-card suspensions to be served in the competition. Julio Sibrián replaced Rafael Tejada shortly after the dismissal and is one of the obvious options to enter the defensive line in Fort-de-France.
There are positives for Gómez in attack. Nathan Ordaz is now fully available after missing the first meeting with Martinique for personal club-related reasons, and he started against Jamaica. Harold Osorio also returned to the starting eleven, while Brayan Gil remains particularly relevant after his brace in the 3-1 victory over Martinique in September.
Gómez remains in charge for this match despite the pressure surrounding his position. The Salvadoran federation confirmed before the Jamaica game that the Colombian coach would continue at least through the trip to Martinique.

A draw helps nobody: Martinique vs El Salvador prediction
This is a match in which the tournament situation should have a major influence on the tactical approach. A draw is practically useless in the race for the top two, while both teams are also fighting to avoid finishing in the relegation places. At some stage, one or both sides will have to take risks.
Martinique arrive with more momentum after beating Honduras and have found the net in every group match. At the same time, Mercadal's side have yet to keep a clean sheet. El Salvador are coming off two scoreless defeats, but the return of Ordaz gives them another attacking option, while Gil has already demonstrated how dangerous he can be against this particular opponent.
Clavel's suspension is another important factor. El Salvador must reorganize a defence that has conceded nine goals in three rounds, and that could give Antiste, Blas and Martinique's attacking midfielders additional space. On the other side, the hosts cannot simply protect a draw, which should also create transition opportunities for El Salvador.
The first meeting produced four goals, Martinique's three matches in the group have all crossed the 2.5-goal line, and the competitive situation encourages both teams to chase a victory rather than manage the score. For that reason, another open encounter looks more attractive than trying to pick the winner.
Prediction: Over 2.5 goals.
