Chelsea – Barcelona: match preview
Chelsea and Barcelona are showing identical form in the Champions League so far. Both sides have collected seven points from their opening four fixtures and sit level in the table, separated only by tiebreakers.
This season, Chelsea lost 1–3 to Bayern Munich, drew 2–2 with Qarabag, and defeated Benfica 1–0 and Ajax 5–1. Barcelona, meanwhile, fell to PSG and shared a 3–3 draw with Club Brugge, but dismantled Olympiacos 6–1 and narrowly beat Newcastle 2–1.
Domestically, Chelsea have been performing quite well. Enzo Maresca’s side have earned 23 points and currently sit second in the league table. They trail the leaders by six points, while their advantage over the teams in third and fourth is one and two points respectively. Barcelona are also second in their league, just one point behind Real Madrid. Their cushion over third and fourth stands at two and three points.
Projected lineups
- Chelsea: Sanchez; James, Adarabioyo, Chalobah, Cucurella; Caicedo, Fernandez; Neto, Pedro, Garnacho; Delap
- Barcelona: J. Garcia; Kounde, E. Garcia, Cubarsi, Balde; Casado, De Jong; Yamal, Lopez, Torres; Lewandowski
Predictions
Two teams level on points, both hungry for a win to reach the ten-point mark. Everything points to a top-quality, high-tempo battle between sides that relish attacking football. My recommendation is to back the total over three goals.
