France, Brest, Stade Francis le Ble

One of the fixtures of Matchday 4 in Ligue 1 sees Brest host defending champions PSG. The hosts have made an unbeaten start to the campaign, while PSG have struggled for consistency in the league but recently responded with a convincing European victory.

Match Preview

Brest have started the new season much better than expected after finishing in mid-table last campaign. They remain unbeaten after three league matches, collecting two draws against Toulouse and Le Mans, both ending 2-2, before beating Le Havre 2-1.

The results have taken Brest to seventh place with five points. Their matches have also been entertaining, with the team scoring in all three games while conceding in each of them.

Brest are yet to win at home this season, with their only match at their own stadium ending in a 2-2 draw against Toulouse. Their record against PSG at home is a much bigger concern, however. Brest have lost each of their last 12 home meetings with the Parisians, including identical 0-3 defeats in the last two.

  • Possible Brest lineup: Selvik, Lala, Le Guen, Lloris, Locko, Chotard, Magnetti, Baldé, Doumbia, Mboup, Ajorque.

PSG have had an unusually difficult start to their Ligue 1 title defence. After winning the UEFA Super Cup against Aston Villa, they lost 0-1 to Lens in the French Super Cup and then drew their opening two league matches against Lille and Rennes, both finishing 2-2.

The Parisians suffered another setback in the previous round, losing 1-2 at home to Monaco. As a result, PSG have collected only two points from their first three league matches and currently sit 14th.

They did, however, produce a strong response in midweek Champions League action, defeating Slovan Bratislava 6-1. That result should provide additional confidence ahead of their return to domestic competition.

  • Possible PSG lineup: Safonov, Hakimi, Marquinhos, Pacho, Mendes, Zaire-Emery, Vitinha, Ruiz, Dembélé, Torres, Akliouche.

Head-to-Head

PSG have dominated the recent meetings between the teams, winning their last seven encounters. The Parisians are unbeaten in the last 20 H2H matches, with nine victories in the last 10.

Brest have also failed to keep PSG off the scoresheet in 20 consecutive meetings, while the Parisians have kept clean sheets in each of the last four. Nine of the last 10 encounters produced more than 2.5 goals.

Key Trends

  • Brest are unbeaten in their first 3 Ligue 1 matches.
  • Brest have scored in all 3 league games this season.
  • PSG have won their last 7 meetings with Brest.
  • 9 of the last 10 H2H meetings produced more than 2.5 goals.
  • All 3 Brest matches this season finished with more than 2.5 goals.
  • PSG's last 4 matches in all competitions produced more than 2.5 goals.

Prediction

Brest deserve credit for their unbeaten start and should have enough attacking quality to make this a competitive encounter. Their ability to score regularly could give PSG some problems, particularly if the hosts manage to exploit their home advantage. However, PSG remain the stronger side on paper and have a huge psychological advantage in this fixture. Their recent Champions League performance also showed that the attacking quality is still there despite the disappointing Ligue 1 results. Overall, Brest should be capable of making the match competitive, but PSG have too much quality and a commanding record in this fixture. After their difficult league start, the champions should be able to regain their momentum and secure a victory away from home.Recommended Bet: Over 3 Total Goals.
