Betis vs Real Madrid: Match preview
Betis remain in the hunt for a top-five finish and a place in the UEFA Champions League, although making up the gap will not be easy. They currently trail Atletico Madrid by eight points with six rounds left to play. They can also hope that Spain secures an additional fifth Champions League berth. In their previous outing, Betis defeated Girona away from home 3-2, but before that they had suffered five straight defeats and were also knocked out of the UEFA Europa League after losing to Braga. Their full focus is now on La Liga.
Real Madrid have also exited European competition. Los Blancos were eliminated by Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals and are now focused solely on the La Liga title race. Real sit second in the Spanish top-flight table. After 32 matches, the side have collected 73 points and trail Barcelona by nine. They still have a head-to-head meeting to come, but that will mean little if Barcelona do not slip up. Real, for their part, must keep winning and hope fortune turns in their favour.
Probable line-ups
- Betis: Valles; Bellerin, Bartra, Natan, Rodriguez; Amrabat, Roca; Antony, Fornals, Ezzalzouli; Hernandez
- Real Madrid: Lunin; Alexander-Arnold, Rudiger, Huijsen, Carreras; Valverde, Bellingham, Tchouameni, Diaz; Vinicius, Mbappe
Prediction
Both sides have plenty of motivation and will be pushing for a positive result in this contest. Neither team has been flawless defensively, so my pick is both teams to score.
