Antalyaspor have spent recent years as a mid-table side in the Turkish Super Lig, but this season their position has become more precarious. By the mid-point of the campaign, it became clear that the club was in real danger of being dragged into a relegation scrap, prompting some drastic decisions.
In January, after a crushing 0-5 defeat to Trabzonspor, the legendary Emre Belözoğlu took over as head coach. Under his guidance, Antalyaspor managed to win six out of 19 matches in all competitions—a far from stellar record.
