Belgium, Anderlecht, Lotto Park

The fourth-round Belgian Pro League match between Anderlecht and Kortrijk will take place on 3 September at Lotto Park in Brussels. The hosts have collected three points and sit 11th, while the visitors have lost all three of their opening matches and are bottom of the table.

Anderlecht: European campaign going better than the league

Anderlecht began their league season with a 2-1 victory over La Louvière, but defeats to Beveren 1-0 and Union 3-0 followed. In between those setbacks, however, they comfortably beat Kairat twice in the Europa League, winning 3-0 both at home and away.

The Brussels side generally look much stronger on their own ground and have won their last five competitive home matches. Anderlecht's home games are often high-scoring, though, with both teams finding the net in 10 of their previous 11 such fixtures.

Kortrijk: defence struggling badly at the start of the season

Since returning to the top flight, Kortrijk have yet to collect a single point. They have lost 3-0 to Club Brugge, 3-0 to Antwerp and 3-1 to Charleroi, conceding exactly three goals in each round.

Their away form also remains a major weakness, with their last three competitive matches on the road all ending in defeat. However, the team finally scored their first goal of the season in the previous round, which offers some hope of a more proactive attacking display.

Match facts and head-to-head record

  • Kortrijk have conceded three goals in each of their opening three league matches.
  • Both teams have scored in seven of Anderlecht's last nine league matches.
  • Both teams have scored in six of Kortrijk's last 10 league matches.

The visitors' defensive problems could make this an open game: Anderlecht vs Kortrijk prediction

Anderlecht look like the favourites and should create chances regularly at home against the weakest defence of the early season. However, the hosts have not always been reliable at the back either, particularly in domestic league matches.

Kortrijk showed against Charleroi that they are capable of finding opportunities in attack, while the recent pattern of matches involving both teams points towards goals at both ends. The most appealing option therefore looks to be backing both teams to score rather than focusing on the match result.
