One of the headline fixtures of the 16th round of the Saudi Pro League will unfold this Saturday at the King Saud University Stadium in Riyadh, where local giants An-Nassr host Al-Shabab. Here's my take on a result prediction for this clash, offering strong value for success.

Match preview

An-Nassr have shockingly hit a rough patch: after a flawless run in the opening 11 rounds, the team has now gone four matches without a win. A draw with Al-Ettifaq was followed by defeats to Al-Ahli, Al-Qadsiah, and, most painfully, a derby loss to Al-Hilal. A sudden dip in performance levels, attacking breakdowns, and catastrophic defensive instability have even cast doubt on their ability to hold onto second place.

The squad situation offers little comfort: Mané is away at AFCON, Brozović and Al-Aqidi are suspended, and Al-Amri's fitness remains uncertain. The team still manages to score in every game, but the defensive line has been making costly errors - 10 goals conceded in the last four matches. Facing Al-Shabab is the perfect opportunity to relaunch their season and regain confidence, especially given the visitors' dreadful away form.

For Al-Shabab, their victory over Neom was a breath of fresh air - just their second league win all season. Before that, they went 10 games without a win, including four straight defeats. There's a slight mood shift within the squad, but it's too early to call it a turning point - only the return of three previously suspended players might partially strengthen their cause.

The biggest issue? Away games. Al-Shabab have yet to win on the road in this season's Pro League, losing their last three away matches by the same 0-2 scoreline. Their attack is virtually non-existent - averaging less than 0.3 goals per away game, which is, without exaggeration, a negative record. In their current form, the visitors will struggle against even an inconsistent An-Nassr side.

Probable lineups

  • An-Nassr: Krepksi, Yahya, Martinez, Simakan, Boushal, Borges, Al-Hassan, Al-Khaibari, Coman, Felix, Ronaldo
  • Al-Shabab: Groe, Alsebyani, Al Shwirekh, Khudt, Yaslam, Adli, Sierro, Al Hammami, Hernandez, Carrasco, Carlos

Match facts and head-to-head

  • Both teams have scored in each of their last four head-to-head encounters.
  • Four of the last five meetings between these clubs have produced at least four goals.
  • Al-Shabab have not won away from home in the Pro League this season.

Prediction

An-Nassr desperately need a win right now - a string of setbacks has put not just first, but even second place at risk. Despite personnel losses, the squad's overall quality and individual brilliance, especially in attack, should be enough to secure all three points against an Al-Shabab side struggling disastrously on the road. The visitors' poor finishing and shaky defense are a huge liability, especially against a team boasting the likes of Ronaldo and Felix.
