Zizo Joins Al Ahly Camp in USA, Set for Debut in Club World Cup Prep

Al Ahly SC received a major boost at their U.S. training base with the arrival of marquee signing Ahmed Mostafa “Zizo”, who completed a blockbuster switch from arch-rivals Zamalek ahead of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
Warm Welcome in Red
Zizo was officially unveiled at the camp, with head coach José Riveiro and sporting director Mohamed Youssef personally welcoming the Egyptian international.
In photos shared by the club, former Zamalek teammate Emam Ashour embraced Zizo in a moment that quickly went viral — symbolizing a powerful new alliance now forged in red. Moroccan winger Achraf Bencharki was also among the first to greet the 28-year-old attacker.
Club World Cup Countdown Begins
Zizo could make his unofficial debut in Al Ahly’s upcoming friendly against Mexican side Pachuca, a key warm-up fixture before the FIFA Club World Cup kicks off on June 15 in the U.S.
Al Ahly will compete in Group A, where they’re set to face:
- Inter Miami (USA)
- FC Porto (Portugal)
- Palmeiras (Brazil)
A Historic Zamalek Legacy Ends
Zizo leaves Zamalek as a club legend and 6th all-time top scorer, with 87 goals across all competitions:
- 61 in the Egyptian Premier League
- 14 in CAF competitions
- 9 in Egypt Cup
- 3 in Arab tournaments
High Expectations in Cairo
Now donning the red jersey, Zizo is expected to play a vital creative role as Al Ahly targets continental dominance and a strong showing at the Club World Cup.
His move marks one of the most dramatic inter-club transfers in recent Egyptian football history — and the next chapter begins on American soil.
