Zamalek Escalates Zizo Saga: Al Ahly Link Sparks Legal Showdown

Zamalek SC has formally requested the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) and its Disciplinary Committee to investigate the unresolved case involving their star winger Ahmed Mostafa “Zizo”, whose contract is set to expire on July 1, 2024.
Official Complaint Sent
In an official letter sent to both governing bodies, Zamalek demanded clarity on why no action has been taken regarding their complaint filed on May 4, alleging premature negotiations between Zizo and another club—widely believed to be arch-rivals Al Ahly.
The club emphasized in its letter that:
“Zizo’s contract is valid until July 1, and no legal transfer discussions or agreements with another club should occur before that date.”
No Renewal After Salary Dispute
Zamalek had previously announced that Zizo would not be renewing his contract after talks broke down due to disagreements over his salary demands. The situation has drawn significant public and media attention amid reports linking the player to a free transfer move to Al Ahly.

Urgent Call for Resolution
The club has now demanded swift intervention from the EFA to:
- Investigate the player’s alleged breach of contract
- Deliver a formal ruling before July 1
Zamalek believes this is necessary to protect its contractual rights and ensure fair dealings in the local transfer market.
Upcoming Clash & Season Recap
Meanwhile, Zamalek is preparing for a crucial Egypt Cup final against Pyramids FC on Thursday. The club’s 2023/24 season has seen:
- A quarterfinal exit from the CAF Confederation Cup (vs. Stellenbosch)
- A third-place finish in the Egyptian Premier League
The management of Zamalek is working hard to make sure that no regulations are broken prior to Zizo's scheduled departure, as his future is still a contentious matter.
