Malian international Yves Bissouma has issued an apology to Tottenham Hotspur fans following the publication of photos that appeared to show him using nitrous oxide, commonly known as “laughing gas.”

The situation gained widespread attention after a video of the midfielder engaging in the activity surfaced on social media, sparking criticism and concern among supporters. In an interview with The Sun, Bissouma opened up about the personal challenges he has been dealing with, describing the period as emotionally draining after becoming a victim of multiple robberies.

The Tottenham midfielder revealed that the incidents left him feeling unsafe in his own home, at times being “scared to sleep at home” and occasionally “taking my stuff to go to sleep at the training ground”. He also disclosed that he lost cash and valuable belongings worth £1 million, an experience that continues to affect his peace of mind.

Addressing the incident directly, Bissouma admitted the impact it has had on his career and reputation.

"I know this is bad for me as a professional footballer, and it also harms my image. I deeply regret it, and I apologize to the fans.

These events broke something inside me: the fear, panic, paranoia, depression, sleeplessness, and the persistent loss of self-confidence," The Sun quoted the player as saying.

Bissouma has yet to make an appearance for Tottenham Hotspur in the 2025/2026 season after being left out of the squad for their UEFA Super Cup defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.
