Corinthians striker Yuri Alberto is seriously considering a switch in his sporting nationality.

Details: According to Benjamin Back, the 25-year-old forward could join the Italy national team setup during the build-up cycle to the 2030 World Cup. The player views this prospect very positively, seeing it as an opportunity to establish himself on the international stage as part of one of Europe’s strongest national sides.

A crucial step toward the “Squadra Azzurra” was Alberto obtaining Italian citizenship, which he officially secured at the beginning of this year.

There are virtually no legal obstacles to a call-up to the Italy national team: although Yuri featured for Brazil’s youth sides and made one friendly appearance for the senior Seleção in 2023, FIFA regulations allow him to switch national teams, as that match was not an official competitive fixture.

It is worth noting that this season the Brazilian has made fourteen appearances for Corinthians across all competitions, scoring five goals and providing one assist.

For reference: Corinthians forward Memphis Depay has received a court ruling in a case regarding phone use during a football match.
