Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal has found himself at the heart of a high-profile scandal following the Catalan club’s championship celebrations. Israel’s defense minister, Israel Katz, has leveled accusations against the young footballer, claiming he is allegedly spreading hatred towards Israel and the Jewish people.
The controversy erupted after a video surfaced on social media showing Yamal celebrating Barcelona’s La Liga victory while holding a Palestinian flag.
In response, Katz called on the Catalan club to address the situation. So far, Barcelona has not issued an official statement, nor have representatives of the Spanish Football Federation. Meanwhile, Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has voiced his support for the player, stating that the country is proud of Yamal's gesture with the Palestinian flag during the championship parade.
