This week, Barcelona's head coach, Xavi Hernandez, along with the club's management, announced the decision to stay at the helm of the team for another season. Such a decision prompts him to contemplate changes within his squad.

Earlier, rumors circulated that one of the key midfielders of the team, Frenkie de Jong, as well as the club's veteran, 32-year-old Sergio Roberto, could leave the team.

Xavi himself decided to refute these rumors and referred to these midfielders as pivotal in his team. His words are quoted by Fabrizio Romano.

Regarding the Dutchman, he stated:

"For me, de Jong is a key player. Nothing has changed; he is very important to me.

He's had bad luck with many injuries, but his level has always been excellent. I consider Frenkie a key player."

He also didn't hesitate to express his views on Sergio Roberto:

"I want Sergio Roberto to stay and sign a new contract. The decision is up to him.

The club and the player know about my plan to keep Sergio; he has always been a key player for me."

Frenkie de Jong has been playing for Barcelona since 2019. During this period, he has played 213 matches, scoring seventeen goals and providing nineteen assists. Sergio Roberto has represented both the reserve and the first team of the Catalans since 2006. He has 366 appearances in the Barcelona shirt, scoring nineteen times and providing 36 assists.
