Xabi Alonso is set to become the coach of Bayern Munich in the upcoming season
In the upcoming season, Xabi Alonso is set to become the head coach of Bayern Munich, as reported by journalist Jose Alvarez.
According to sources, in the 2024-25 season, the current Bayer Leverkusen coach will take charge of the Munich-based club. Notably, Alonso previously represented Bayern Munich as a player from 2014 to 2017, winning the German championship three times and claiming the DFB-Pokal and DFL-Supercup once each.
Additionally, there was information that Alonso and Bayer Leverkusen had reached a verbal agreement regarding the Spaniard's departure in the event of receiving an offer from Real Madrid, Liverpool, or Bayern Munich.
Recall that in October 2022, Alonso was appointed as the head coach of the German club Bayer 04, signing a two-year contract. At that time, Bayer was in 17th place in the Bundesliga standings, with only one victory in the first eight matches. However, under the guidance of the Spanish coach, the team improved its performance and finished the season in 6th place. Moreover, Alonso's team reached the semi-finals of the Europa League, narrowly losing to AS Roma over two legs.
Currently, both Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen are leading the German Bundesliga. Alonso's team is ahead of the defending champion by two points, and their direct encounter ended in a 2-2 draw.
