Moroccan powerhouse Wydad Casablanca has made it plain that performance, not profile, is the main priority as they get ready for a historic debut at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.

Drawn into Group G, Wydad will face elite opposition:

  • Manchester City (England)
  • Juventus FC (Italy)
  • Al Ain FC (UAE)

Pedro & Mendy: Offers Declined

According to Al Mountakhab, intermediaries offered Wydad the services of two high-profile free agents:

  • Pedro (former Barcelona and Chelsea forward)
  • Benjamin Mendy (former Manchester City and France defender)

But Wydad’s technical leadership swiftly rejected the proposal, citing their commitment to building a cohesive, competitive team for both the Club World Cup and the 2024–2025 season.

The club emphasized a desire to invest in players aligned with the team’s long-term sporting vision, rather than banking on past reputations.

  • Espérance de Tunis (Tunisia)
  • Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa)

Africa will field four teams in this expanded 32-team global showcase, set to kick off on June 14.
