Wydad Fall to Sevilla in Club World Cup Warm-Up at Home

Wydad Casablanca’s preparations for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup hit a bump on Tuesday night as the Moroccan champions suffered a 1-0 defeat to Spanish outfit Sevilla in a friendly played at home in Mohammed V Stadium.
One Costly Mistake
The only goal of the game came in the 49th minute, when Sevilla’s Gerard Fernandez pounced on a glaring error from goalkeeper Mehdi Benabid, who misjudged a routine back pass. Despite a few promising moments, Wydad failed to mount a serious threat in attack.
Next Up: FC Porto
Wydad will look to bounce back quickly in their next high-profile warm-up against Portuguese giants FC Porto this Saturday, part of their final tuning before flying to the United States for the expanded FIFA Club World Cup, set to run from June 14 to July 13.
Group of Giants
Wydad face a massive challenge in Group G, drawn alongside:
- Manchester City (June 18 – Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia)
- Juventus (June 22 – Philadelphia)
- Al Ain FC (June 26 – Audi Field, Washington D.C.)
With the spotlight on their continental pedigree, Wydad must raise their level fast to compete with Europe’s elite in the world’s biggest club competition.
