Wydad Casablanca Refutes Salary Allegations, Confirms Mokwena’s Continued Stay
Wydad Casablanca has firmly denied claims made by South African media that their head coach, Rhulani Mokwena, and his coaching staff have not been paid for the past eight months. The accusations surfaced on Tuesday, but the Moroccan club quickly responded by releasing internal documents that confirm the staff has received their salaries in full, with the exception of two months, which are still being processed.
The allegations, which coincided with the build-up to the highly anticipated Casablanca derby, were taken seriously by the club’s management. Wydad's president, Hicham Aït Menna, has reportedly summoned Mokwena's agent, Steve Kapelushnikk, to investigate the leaks and identify those responsible for the rumors.
Mokwena Set to Stay Until End of Season
In addition to addressing the salary issue, it has been confirmed that an agreement has been reached between the Wydad president and Mokwena’s agent to keep the South African coach in charge until the end of the current season. Mokwena has stated his dedication to the team's objectives and will continue to concentrate on finishing second in the league, which would guarantee a spot in the upcoming CAF Champions League, according to Moroccan radio station Radio Mars.
Wydad's supporters are relieved that Mokwena will remain in the dugout, as it allows them to focus on the rest of the season without being sidetracked by off-field dramas.
