WTA to ban fan who brought Raducanu to tears from attending matches
In the round of 16 at the WTA 1000 tournament in Dubai, Emma Raducanu failed to win a single set against Czech player Karolína Muchová and even broke down in tears during the match. As it turned out, the reason was not entirely sporting.
Details: During the match, the British player became the target of a fan exhibiting "demonstrative obsessive behavior." On Monday, he had privately approached her and later said something to her during the match. What exactly was said remains undisclosed, but the WTA will ban this fan from attending matches until a threat assessment is completed. Raducanu is also receiving support.
Reminder: In February 2022, a man was sentenced to a five-year restraining order and an 18-month community order after showing up at Raducanu’s home in Bromley (southeast London) on three separate occasions. In one instance, he attached a card displaying a map of the 23-mile journey he had walked from his home to hers.
