Rodri has revealed just how differently his football career could have unfolded.
Details: Speaking to COPE, Barcelona midfielder Rodri recalled Real Madrid’s attempts to sign him. The Spaniard confirmed that the Madrid club held direct talks with him and made a serious effort to complete the transfer. According to the player, the proposal made his eventual decision far from straightforward.
“Real Madrid really tried hard. They wanted to sign me, we had direct talks and they came with everything they had to make it happen”. “They made my decision difficult. I am grateful. Speaking with Florentino Pérez too? I am not gonna say that”, Rodri told COPE.
The midfielder thus confirmed Real Madrid’s interest and the direct negotiations, but stopped short of saying whether he had personally spoken with club president Florentino Pérez. Rodri ultimately joined Barcelona rather than the Madrid side.
It is worth noting that Rodri wears the No. 16 shirt at Barcelona. The Spanish midfielder won the Ballon d’Or in 2024 and scored Manchester City’s winning goal in the 2023 Champions League final.
