Tampa Bay quarterback Baker Mayfield is suing his father, James Mayfield, according to reports from KXAN Sports. The lawsuit involves Camwood Capital Management Group, a company owned by James Mayfield.
The plaintiffs in the case include Baker Mayfield, his wife Emily, and their company, Team BRM, LLC (TBRM). The dispute stems from financial transactions conducted between 2018 and 2021. According to the lawsuit, Camwood Capital Management Group and its subsidiaries allegedly received $12 million from the Mayfields without their knowledge or consent.
These funds were transferred from their personal and TBRM accounts and were reportedly used to cover general operational expenses, becoming the primary source of financing and capitalization for Camwood Capital.
In January 2024, the parties confidentially reached a settlement agreement requiring Camwood Capital to repay $11.7 million plus interest in installments starting September 30. However, the company has failed to fulfill this obligation.
"It is now clear that Defendants had no intention of making Plaintiffs whole when they entered into the Settlement Agreement," the suit states. "To date, Camwood Capital has not repaid even one dollar under the Settlement Agreement," the lawsuit states.
