Argentina's head coach, Lionel Scaloni, has announced the squad for the September 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Notably, the squad does not include the leader and captain of La Albiceleste, Lionel Messi. Recall that in the final of the Copa América 2024, Argentina defeated Colombia 1-0. In the 63rd minute, Messi fell to the ground and was unable to continue; he received treatment for an extended period before leaving the field three minutes later.
Since the Copa América final, Messi has not played, as he continues his recovery from the injury.
Argentina will face Chile on September 6 and Colombia on September 10. Currently, La Albiceleste leads the South American qualifiers with 15 points after six rounds.
