Wirtz’s transfer to Liverpool will set a record in English football
Liverpool and Bayer had lengthy negotiations over the fee for the "Pharmacists’" midfielder Florian Wirtz, and now both sides have finally reached a consensus, creating a precedent in English football.
Details: According to updated information from Sky Sports, the "Scousers" will not pay the full €135 million for the 21-year-old midfielder up front, as previously reported. €117 million will be paid as a mandatory fee, with an additional €18 million available to Bayer in the form of bonuses.
If the full €135 million is paid to the "Pharmacists," the deal will set a new record in English football. Converted to pounds sterling, this amounts to £116.5 million, making the Wirtz transfer the most expensive in the history of English football.
Currently, the most expensive transfer was made by Chelsea in 2023, when they signed Moises Caicedo from Brighton for £115 million.
Reminder: Wirtz is now free to negotiate with Liverpool, where personal terms are expected to be a mere formality, as he is determined to play for this club. The medical examination is scheduled for next week, once the player returns from vacation.
