Williams driver caught in a bizarre incident during Azerbaijan Grand Prix qualifying
A Formula 1 driver faced an unusual problem during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix qualifying due to a serious pit stop error by the team.
Details: During the Azerbaijan Grand Prix qualifying, Alex Albon of the Williams team had to manually remove the airbox from the roof of his car right on the pit lane.
Albon and his teammate Franco Colapinto made it to the third segment of qualifying in Baku, marking a significant achievement for Williams. Both drivers performed well on their initial attempts and managed to complete another fast lap.
However, when Albon left the pits, the airbox, which cools the car, had not been removed. Oscar Piastri of McLaren noticed this while passing by and informed his engineer to alert the Williams team.
Additionally: While the Williams mechanics observed the situation, Albon realized he would need to remove the airbox himself, as any external intervention could lead to disqualification. After a minute of effort, he managed to detach the airbox and continue, but he could not complete another lap before the session ended. As a result, he will start from 10th position tomorrow.
