William Troost-Ekong Warns Super Eagles Not to Underestimate Gabon Ahead of 2026 FIFA World Cup Playoffs
Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has sent a strong warning to his teammates ahead of Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs semi-final clash against Gabon. The experienced defender emphasized that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang remains Gabon’s most dangerous player and must be treated with utmost caution.
Speaking to Olympics.com, Troost-Ekong praised the quality of the Gabonese side while stressing the importance of staying focused and disciplined throughout the encounter.
“Gabon is a strong team. Aubameyang continues to lead from the front, causing problems for defenders. I’ve played against him in Saudi Arabia, and I know what he brings,” Troost-Ekong said. “In Africa, you can’t underestimate any team, and we certainly won’t do that with Gabon.”
The highly anticipated match will take place at the Prince Héritier Moulay El Hassan Sports Complex in Rabat, with kick-off scheduled for 5:00 PM Nigerian time.
