William Troost-Ekong Retires from International Football
Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has officially stepped away from international football, closing the curtain on a distinguished ten–year career with Nigeria. His decision follows the national team’s disappointing failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, marking an emotional moment for fans and teammates alike.
Renowned Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano was the first to report the news across his social media platforms, confirming growing rumours that the 30-year-old defender had opted to retire from international duty. According to Romano, Troost-Ekong has made his decision final and will no longer represent the Super Eagles.
As of now, neither the player nor the Nigerian Football Federation has released an official statement. Troost-Ekong leaves behind an impressive legacy: 83 international caps and three AFCON medals, solidifying his place among Nigeria’s most committed and respected defenders.
